Lone worker protection for science and bio workers

Those working within this sector can be left alone for extended periods of time. During this time, they can be subjected to hazardous materials, chemicals and machinery. Lone workers within this industry can find themselves isolated and without regular contact from other workers, leaving them at risk if an accident occurs.

Locating staff in medical and scientific laboratory environments can often be difficult. Indoor locations make GPS ineffective whilst security and access controls can make it difficult to search an area or a number of rooms quickly.

Furthermore, different roles have different levels of risk, meaning this industry is not a one device fits all.

Lone worker protection - Science and Bio workers

LONEALERT Solutions for science and bio industry:

As with all sectors the level of risk depends on the employees job role - which can differ drastically throughout the day. Looking after multiple staff with high & low level lone working risks can be a difficult task. We have a variety of solutions that will help you, all of which are controlled by The O.W.L, so you can mix and match solutions to suit your needs. The O.W.L allows you to set up personalised or company-wide escalation procedures that will come into effect as soon as an alarm is raised. We can also provide the appropriate lone worker training for your industry to keep your staff as safe as possible.

LONEALERT Access:

What is it?

Accessed via The O.W.L, landline, mobile phone or smartphone, LONEALERT Access is a simple, cost effective solution to benefit lower risk roles within this sector.

How it can work?

A worker is in a low risk environment, but working long after the bulk of colleagues have gone home. Using the O.W.L, they can create a count-down timer, with a duration they feel comfortable with. If they need a bit longer they simply extend the timer via the O.W.L. As they leave, they simply extend the timer once more, as the walk to the car park is dark and quiet. Once in their car, or place of safety, they simply use their phone to log themselves off from the O.W.L.

LONEALERT Instant:

What is it?

The Instant solution includes all products within the LONEALERT Access range, and adds access via a range of dedicated devices. GPS equipped with fall detection, panic and one button timer creation.

How can it work?

As with Access, for low risk workers, but Instant comes into its own when any number of people could be lone working at different times. One device is located on the office wall, and the lone worker alarm simply picks it up and wears it. If an alert is raised, help is called to the workers location – in truth the most important thing is that someone attends to assist, not exactly who has caused the alarm.

How it can work?

Mina is working alone in her lab, having come in out of hours to review the results of an experiment. The closest person is on the next floor down. Further, her lab has controlled substances which pose risk to health, so the door locks firmly behind her. Having picked up her Plus on the way out of the changing room, she swipes the RF-Tag as she enters the lab, recording her location with the O.W.L. In the event of an accident, the alarm is raised to the control room of the onsite security who will be provided with the exact location of Mina, as well as contact details of access protocols for her lab.
